2022 Mid-Year Book Freak-Out Tag

2022 Mid-Year Book Freak-Out Tag

It’s the middle of the year (ew) and I have read everything and nothing. My TBR pile has only increased in size, and every single thought about the books I read this year just flew out of my head. So let’s attempt to do the mid-year book freak-out tag!

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Series Review!

Mid-Year Book Freak-Out Tag!

How much have you been reading?

As of writing this post, I’ve officially read 50 books. My Goodreads goal for the year is 52 books, so it’s safe to say I’ll easily pass that. Generally, I feel good about the amount that I’m reading. I’ve been reading plenty of comics, novellas, and short stories. However, I’ve also been reading a lot of chunky books. It’s a good mix so far.

What have you been reading?

This is just an excuse to share my pie graphs with you. I have been reading a lot of four and five-star books, which is excellent. It means I’m finally enjoying what I read again, which was one of my bookish goals for the year.

I’ve also been reading more adult novels, and as a result, I’ve been reading more romance and sci-fi. My reading tastes are definitely moving away from YA, which is good. I do, however, want to read more fantasy in the next half of the year.

Best book you’ve read so far

Okay, I’ve had 13 5-star reads this year so far, which is insane. It feels like I’ve been giving out 5 stars left and right, which is awesome. However, I do have a clear favourite for the year, and that is Hench by Natalie Zina Walschots.

Best sequel you’ve read so far

I have been reading a lot of standalone books this year, but I am slowly making progress with my unfinished series. Best sequel definitely goes to Network Effect by Martha Wells. I had the best time listening to this book and I will defend Murderbot with my life.

New release you haven’t read yet but want to

So many books, tbh. One that stands out for me is The Kindred by Alechia Dow. It’s been on my radar for a while and I will hopefully get to it soon.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Once again, so many. Babel, Nona the Ninth, and The Whispering Dark are all high on my list.

A book that’s out of your comfort zone

I used to think romance was out of my comfort zone, but now it’s become my comfort zone. I haven’t read anything this year that’s been out of my comfort zone. Hopefully, I can squeeze in a non-fiction book by the end of the year.

Biggest surprise

I’ll be honest, A Discovery of Witches. I’ve been aware of this series for a while, and I even own the whole set, but I’ve never picked them up. Then one day I decided to watch the series (because Matthew Goode) and I was hooked. I’m current 3/4 through the second book and planning on reading the third book immediately. I never binge book series, so this is a first. I am completely obsessed.

New favourite author

Ali Hazelwood has certainly become a new favourite, but also Denise Williams, Deborah Harkness, and Rebecca Roanhorse.

Underrated gems you’ve read recently

These books seriously need more love, and I’ll make it my mission to scream about them forever. Dark and Shallow Lies, Sisters of the Vast Black, Hench, Seven Days in June.

Books to read by the end of the year

Hopefully, I can make some progress with my Netgalley TBR, and also read some anticipated releases.

I ADORED I kissed shara wheeler, it’s so hilarious and the characters are fantastic, hope you love it as well!!💖💖
Loved this post so much, and can’t wait to read more posts from you!!💖💗

  2. 13 five star reads so far does sound like a dream to me!! I’ve had 8 and I feel like that’s a great number. Babel is an upcoming release I’m also keen to read. I wasn’t interested in The Poppy War, so I’m curious to finally experience Kuang’s writing. (Sidenote, I love colour scheme of your pie charts and those beautiful page markers in the header photo!)

  3. 13 5 stars books are a lot, I’m glad you’re having a fantastic reading year so far! I love the Discovery of Witches TV series, but I’m still on the fence on picking up the books since they seem very intimidating…

  4. I love that you’ve had so many 50star reads this year, that’s AMAZING! I’ve been interested in picking up A Discovery of Witches for ages now and how fun that you’re enjoying it. I might have to submit a library hold…

Happy reading the rest of the year

    1. I have an unhealthy obsession with Matthew from A Discovery of Witches. I highly recommend it.
