Anti TBR Book Tag

Hello friends! I hope you’ve had a good weekend. My eye surgery went well (I can see now!) and I am back with a somewhat controversial book tag. The Anti TBR Book Tag is basically a tag about all of the books you don’t want to read.

I’m a big fan of DNFing books and just not reading books I know I won’t enjoy. There’s no such thing as “you have to read this or that” for me. Read what you want, and if you’re not enjoying it, chuck it.

Let’s dive in!

Read my March Reading Wrap-Up here!

Anti TBR Book Tag Prompts!

1. A popular book EVERYONE loves but you have no interest in reading

This will be a no brainer to some, but I have absolutely zero interest in reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Absolutely none. Fantasy romance doesn’t stick with me, and I’m not going to slog through big books just for some fairy wingspan. I know these books contain things other than smut, but for now, I’ll give them a hard pass.

Anti TBR Book TagFeyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price …

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

2. A classic book (or author) you have no interest in reading

I honestly have no desire to read any classics. I prefer modern books or even retellings. However, I did end up reading the Picture of Dorian Grey and I enjoyed it. But I have no interest in reading any other classical works. (Except maybe for Dune and only because a new movie is coming out).

3. An author whose books you have no interest in reading

Cassandra Clare. I have no interest in the Shadowhunter world and at this point, I think she should just stop. Besides her extremely problematic behaviour, I don’t think her writing is that good and I’d rather read something like Legendborn if I’m looking for an urban fantasy fix.

4. An author you have read a couple of books from and decided they’re not for you

This might be another controversial opinion, but V.E. Schwab. I’ve read several of her books at this point and none of them has made it above 4 stars. Something about her writing just does not click with me, and that’s okay.

5. A genre you have no interest in

There are many, LOL. Mostly I’m not interested in non-fiction books. My life is already non-fiction, so why would I want to read about it too? No thanks, I’d rather have my fantasy and my head in the clouds.

6. A book you bought but will never read

My entire TBR you mean? Usually, I get rid of books I bought and decided I would never read. I don’t have the shelf space for books I’ve lost interest in.

7. A series you have no interest in reading

Don’t hate me, but I have no interest in reading the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. Nothing about it has appealed to me, even though I know it’s very well-loved in the book community. I can’t exactly tell you why, but it hasn’t grabbed me. I’ll give it a skip for now.

Anti TBR Book TagJuliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong colour.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

8. A new release you have no interest in reading

There are many, considering I can’t read all the new releases (even though I want to). One that really sticks out is the new Victoria Aveyard book, Realm Breaker. It does not appeal to me, and since I didn’t really enjoy the Red Queen series, I’ll skip.

    1. I liked one of her books and it was Vicious😂 I’d rather read some other authors instead.

  1. “A book you bought but will never read – My entire TBR you mean?” made me laugh out loud because same!! Also I agree with you on multiple points! SJM, CC or V.E. Schwab isn’t for me either (I’m a bit curious about Realm Breaker but I feel like I’ll probably just open it for a few seconds before that curiosity would be satisfied). Thanks for tagging my blog. 🤍 I can’t wait to write up a post! This should be really interesting. 👀

  2. I hardcore love the villains series by V.E Schwab but have struggled with her other series so I feel you!!! So much of this post I agreed with (especially shatter me) and it’s nice to read it and not feel so alone

    1. I’m also glad I’m not alone! Sometimes you just get caught up in the hype of books, but it’s okay to not like some books!

  3. I like this tag. I find that despite liking the sound of a lot of really popular books, they just don’t appeal to me enough to pick them up, and it is rare that I pick up a non-fiction.

  4. I love hearing what people don’t want to read xD I totally agree with you on ACOTAR, Cassandra Clare, and The Shatter Me series… I have no interest at all in them!

  5. Definitely hear you on A Court of Thorns and Roses, I have zero interest in that one myself.

I’m not sure where I stand on V.E. Schwab. I’ve read her Darker Shade of Magic series, and that was very much a mixed bag for me. A friend has lend me Vicious, so I guess I will give her a second chance?

    Thank you for the tag!

  6. Glad the surgery went well!

#1: Thanks for putting it out there! I’m in a similar boat. I enjoy romantic fantasies but I have yet to read A Court of Thorns and Roses and don’t feel the impulse to either, although I enjoyed Throne of Glass a lot.. Maybe in the future?

    LOL at #6
I’m always afraid I’ll forget a book that sounds like it’s something I want to read and put it on my TBR to only then read anything not on my TBR…so yup, I understand what you mean.

  7. These kinds of tags are so interesting to me. I don’t think you’re missing out when it comes to ACOTAR or the Shadowhunter world (though I did enjoy The Infernal Devices), but I’m bummed you didn’t seem to care for V.E. Schwab’s work. I’ve loved everything she’s written, but I know that bookish people aren’t meant to agree on everything 😉
