September Reading Wrap-Up!

It’s spooky season! Yay. Although it’s spring here and very warm, I am determined to enjoy the spooky season. It has been raining a lot, so there’s that. Let’s get into my September reading!

September Reading Wrap-Up: Books I Read in September

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: High School is Hell Vol 1 by Jordie Bellaire

I was really in the mood for some Buffy this month, and I was super excited to found these comics. BtVS: High School is Hell is a reimagining of the original Buffy show in a modern setting. The art style is really cool, with likenesses taken straight from the original actors. The story was a bit choppy in some places, I didn’t always follow what was happening. But it was good fun to read.

Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone

I wanted to like this book. Lakesedge has gothic vibes and the cover is gorgeous. Unfortunately, it was a complete miss for me. I won’t say too much about it, since I have a review coming later this month. Watch this space!

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

All was not lost this month, because The Love Hypothesis saved it! This is arguably the best book I’ve read this year. It was everything I ever wanted, with a demisexual main character. You can read my thoughts in my review below!

The Love Hypothesis Review!

Well Matched by Jen DeLuca

I’m a big fan of this series. I was so happy when I received a Netgalley ARC of Well Matched. though I have to admit I wasn’t really rooting for April and Mitch. The book changed my mind instantly. I enjoyed their story and it was a fitting end to this series. My review for it will also be up later this month, but in the meantime here is my review for Well Played.

Well Played Review!

Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco

I have been putting this book off for YEARS. Stalking Jack the Ripper is one of my favourite books and I really struggled with finishing this series. Ultimately, I was a little disappointed. Capturing the Devil is 70% romance and 30% mystery. A hundred pages or more could have been cut, and I really wish this story focused more on the killer. H.H. Holmes is arguably the most famous serial killer, next to Jack the Ripper. There was not enough snooping for clues and we hardly ever meet our villain. While the ending was really sweet, I wish the book played out differently.

Escaping Houdini Review!

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

This book was a surprise for sure. A Deadly Education was once on my most anticipated list, but after I received a Netgalley ARC for it I just never read it. This was one of my oldest Netgalley ARCs and I’m glad I finally got to it. I listened to the audiobook and this was a fun read. The worldbuilding and the characters really spoke to me. I highly recommend you read my review, and maybe try the audiobook.

Normal People by Sally Rooney

I don’t want to think about this book too much, because the ending makes me really mad. Normal People was a good book, and I understand what the author was going for, but I am still mad about it.

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

As a sci-fi lover, I have been wanting to read this book since I joined the bookish community. I picked up the third book in the series at a book sale recently, so I thought it was time I get to it. And I loved it. It was everything I wanted from a sci-fi book and I cannot wait to read the rest. If you’re a sci-fi lover and you haven’t read these, I highly recommend The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet.

  • The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (bought)
  • There Will Come a Darkness by Katy Rose Pool (bought)

  1. That NetGalley thing is truly an accomplishment. It’s a tempting wormhole 😂. Thank you so much for sharing my post!
