The Personal Library Book Tag

Another week, another blog post. This week I’m doing the personal library book tag! I found this tag on Twitter a few months ago and I am super excited to be finally doing it. This tag was created by 24hryabookblog, so all credit goes to them!

The Love Hypothesis Review!

The Personal Library Book Tag

1. How do you organise the books on your shelves?

Lol, my shelves are organised chaos at this point. I have one big bookshelf with all of my read books, and then two smaller shelves for my unread books. My big shelf is chaos, though it is technically by preference. My favourite books are on top, with the less favourite ones down at the bottom.

2. Any particular aesthetic or niche genre of books you’d like to see more of on your shelves?

I can always use more sci-fi on my shelves. There is only one dedicated sci-fi space on my shelf so I need more sci-fi books. I love watching sci-fi, sometimes it is just better for watching. However, my Gideon the Ninth and The Ones We’re Meant to Find books are my treasures.

3. Pick a book on your shelf and share the personal story behind it!

There are a few books on my shelves with interesting stories. My favourites include my TWO signed copies of Song of Sorrow. One got lost in the mail, so my friend Mieke brought me another one from Ireland. Two years after the first copy got lost, it was found. So now I have two personalised copies of Song of Sorrow.

My copy of King of Scars also got held up at the post office. It came with a bath bomb that (unfortunately) exploded, and the post office wouldn’t release it because they thought it was drugs. Sometimes that’s how things go in Africa.

4. Name a book (or books) in your personal collection that people would be surprised to see that you own.

I own a surprising amount of classics for someone who doesn’t read classics. My copies of Dracula, Pride & Prejudice, The Art of War and The Evolution of Species were all cover buys. I haven’t actually read them. I did read Dorian Grey last year, which I enjoyed. Maybe this is a sign to give more classics a go.

5. What’s a book that you own that’s still on your TBR?

I own about 75 unread books (it might be more lol). I have a book buying problem. The ones on my immediate TBR would be The Archive of the Forgotten and Capturing the Devil. I hope I get to them soon.

6. Name a book (or books) you desperately want to add to your personal library

I would love to add The Burning God by R.F. Kuang to my personal library. I’m (impatiently) waiting for the paperback to release.

7. Any particular goals you have for your collection?

I need to trim down my collection. The books I own should be ones I really love, and not just ones that were okay. There are quite a few books on my shelf that I would like to get rid of, which makes space for new books. I need to be better at book buying as well.

  1. Oh I love this tag so much! My shelves are also an absolute mess and I’m totally with you on wanting more sci-fi! It’s turned into one of my favourite genres over the last years and even though most of the books on my shelves are unread, I’m always on the hunt for more. Literally, my shelves are full to the brim and yet there I am, buying 3 new books after therapy as a treat yesterday lol.
