Avatar: The Last Airbender – Comic Book Review

Hello friends! It has been one hell of a week. This post was supposed to go up on Tuesday, but I spent the entire Tuesday working on my masters. I’m a little behind schedule, but here is my Avatar The Last Airbender – Comic Book Review! I got two comics from Edelweiss to review, so I’m doing both of them in one go.

For years, fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra have burned with one question–what happened to Fire Lord Zuko’s mother? Finding a clue at last, Zuko enlists the aid of Team Avatar–and the most unlikely ally of all–to help uncover the biggest secret of his life.

Review – Avatar: The Last Airbender The Search Omnibus

I’ll cut straight to the chase, ATLA is one of my favourite TV series of all time. So it’s no surprise that I would love The Search. This comic picks up directly after The Promise and it answers one of the biggest questions in TV history: Where is Zuko’s mom?

Unfortunately, due to the format, it doesn’t capture the same essence as the TV show. Action sequences and facial expressions now feel a little 2D, but it’s no fault of the illustrator. I wish we could have gotten an animated continuation, but for now, we have the comics.

I really enjoyed this story. It was lighthearted and really got to the heart of Zuko and Azula’s relationship. I did miss Toph in this one, but I’m glad we got more of Azula. The worldbuilding and the art style is amazing, and I really love that we got to return to the world of Avatar even after the show ended. We also get answers to some of our questions, which is fantastic.

If you’re a fan of the show and want more, this comic is for you!

Review – Avatar: The Last Airbender The Art of the Animated Series

This is such a fun book to read and experience. I love diving deep into fandom lore and art styles, so this book is the perfect read. We get a look at how the entire series took shape and how our favourite characters came to be. The artwork is stunning and very detailed and includes some of our favourite characters, towns and scenes.

The book is annotated by Mike and Bryan, taking us through their entire creative process. They also give us some behind the scenes info that most fans might not know of. My favourite part of the book is the background designs and architectural designs of familiar and beloved locations. There’s also some fun animal designs, and we get to see baby Appa!

This book is the perfect addition to the ATLA fandom and perfect for fans of all ages.

Let me know what you thought of these ATLA comics!
