Goodreads Description:Ā The last city on Earth is contaminated. Now blood is the only thing that can wash it clean.

Julia is trapped inside the Blue as the Nobles fight over the few humans who are still alive. When the dust settles and she finds herself shackled to a new master, she knows she must escape or die.

Meanwhile, Cam has gathered a handful of comrades and is on his way into the Red to rescue his queen. But not all of his friends can be trusted, and not all of them will make it back alive.

Josie Jaffrey is back with the second book in her Sovereign series. We’re thrown deeper into the dystopian world that Jaffrey so beautifully created. The story picks up right where The Gilded King left off, easily living up to the first book. Jaffrey’s writing pulls you in and keeps you hooked. I do feel like the pace of The Silver Queen was much slower than that of The Gilded King. There were some twists here and there, especially the cliffhanger at the end. I was also a little disappointed in Emmy, considering the book is named after her we didn’t get to see much of her. I cannot wait for the third book.

CharactersCharacters

Julia was my favourite for this round. Her character development was much more in-depth this time and I felt like she finally doing something for herself. It also felt like the spark between her and Luca seemed to dull in this book. It seems like Julia outgrew Luca. I was very fond of their romance in the first book, but I’m glad it’s not the focal point for this book.

Cam was just his usual self, and still one of my favourite characters. His relationship with Felix has developed and grown deeper and the chemistry is still between them. I also enjoyed seeing his relationship with Emmy, as it was greatly implied in the first book that they were close.

Emmy definitely needs to step up her game in the third book. I wish we could get a POV from her side because at the moment it feels like she’s only capable of being partially comatose and only snaps out of it when the plot needs her to become a vicious killer. She needs to be a little more fleshed out.

  1. Great review. I am not sure about whether I will read this series. I struggle with a huge amount of world building. It has to be extremely well done for me to follow it and not have it feel like hard work. šŸ™‚

  2. I really enjoyed the first book The Gilded King and am looking forward to reading The Silver Queen. I’m glad you liked it.

  3. Not sure if this one is for me, it feels like the world building is a bit all over the place but it’s also not fair of me to judge this based on the synopsis and your review when not having read the book myself haha. But it’s a lovely review!

    1. The world building is actually fantastic. I went into more detail with the world building in my review of the first book. I definitely recommend this one.
