Goodreads Description: It’s been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine. Since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty’s life out from under her.

It started slow. First, the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don’t dare wander outside the school’s fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything.

But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie beyond the fence. And when she does, Hetty learns that there’s more to their story, to their life at Raxter, than she could have ever thought true.

Review PolicyGeneral Thoughts

This book is so uniquely written. It took me a few minutes to get used to Power’s writing style but Wilder Girls quickly became one of those books I couldn’t put down. Power has such a unique writing style that pulls you into the book and doesn’t let go.

Her writing, like the book, feels a little off at first. But that’s the intended effect of the book. The Tox is a creepy disease, and Power’s writing thoroughly conveyed that. I loved how creepy and different this book is.

I only had some issues with the book, mainly the ending. Some things were never fully explained and the ending is open-ended, which I did not enjoy. The pacing was weird in some places, but I really enjoyed the POV changes.

Overall this book is amazing and I loved reading something that’s a bit out of my comfort zone.

CharactersCharacters

Reese was by far my favourite character, even though Hetty is the MC, I felt like we didn’t get to know her as in-depth as we got to know Reese and Byatt. I didn’t like Byatt, but that’s just my preference.

This book comes with a few trigger warnings, such as self-harm and suicide, so, please take care when reading it!
