Goodreads Description: Aveline Jones loves reading ghost stories, so a dreary half-term becomes much more exciting when she discovers a spooky old book. Not only are the stories spine-tingling, but it once belonged to Primrose Penberthy, who vanished mysteriously, never to be seen again. Intrigued, Aveline decides to investigate Primrose’s disappearance.

Now someone… or something, is stirring. And it is looking for Aveline.

I received a review copy from Penguin Random House South Africa. All opinions are my own.

Review

I usually judge middle grades by how enjoyable they are for adults as well. I think good children’s books can be enjoyed by people of all ages. And I really enjoyed Aveline Jones. Spooky things are usually right up my alley, and this book was super spooky. Seriously, I couldn’t read it at night.

Aveline was a great character to follow and I really enjoyed her story. I saw so much of myself in her (especially those late nights staying up to read Goosebumps books and then scaring myself into not sleeping) and she’s a wonderful protagonist for this series.

The pacing of the book was really fast and had me on the edge of my seat. The mystery was creepy and super fun to solve. Overall this was a fantastic spooky read and I highly recommend it.
