5 Books that should be TV Series

Hi friends! I initially had a different post planned for today, but while binge-watching Salvation last night I had a different idea. I’ve read a couple of good books this year, so I thought I’d make a list of 5 books that should be TV series. Some books just have that “made for TV” feel to them. Let’s jump in!

5 Books that should be TV Series

Of Silver and Shadow by Jennifer Gruenke

44538875I recently reread this book and it just reignited my love for it. Of Silver and Shadow follows multiple characters and POVs set in a fantasy world on the brink of revolution. With fantasy series finding more of a foothold on Netflix, I think this book would make a great addition to that lineup. It has magic, romance, LGBTQ characters and so much more. I need it ASAP.

Goodreads Description Ren Kolins is a silver wielder—a dangerous thing to be in the kingdom of Erdis, where magic has been outlawed for a century. Ren is just trying to survive, sticking to a life of petty thievery, card games, and pit fighting to get by. But when a wealthy rebel leader discovers her secret, he offers her a fortune to join his revolution. The caveat: she won’t see a single coin until they overthrow the King.

Behind the castle walls, a brutal group of warriors known as the King’s Children is engaged in a competition: the first to find the rebel leader will be made King’s Fang, the right hand of the King of Erdis. And Adley Farre is hunting down the rebels one by one, torturing her way to Ren and the rebel leader, and the coveted King’s Fang title.

But time is running out for all of them, including the youngest Prince of Erdis, who finds himself pulled into the rebellion. Political tensions have reached a boiling point, and Ren and the rebels must take the throne before war breaks out.

The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He

5 Books that should be TV ShowsI’ve been thinking about this book a lot recently. It was just so good. It has a compelling mystery plot, the coolest worldbuilding, and a great climate issue. I think visually this book would be amazing as a TV series. There are a lot of eco floating cities and I’m getting a Ready Player One/Altered Carbon vibe. The two different POVs and timelines will also be awesome to follow, and the TV series could even go beyond the book. I would like it to have more of Act and Kasey’s story.

Goodreads Description: Cee has been trapped on an abandoned island for three years without any recollection of how she arrived, or memories from her life prior. All she knows is that somewhere out there, beyond the horizon, she has a sister named Kay, and it’s up to Cee to cross the ocean and find her.

In a world apart, 16-year-old STEM prodigy Kasey Mizuhara lives in an eco-city built for people who protected the planet―and now need protecting from it. With natural disasters on the rise due to climate change, eco-cities provide clean air, water, and shelter. Their residents, in exchange, must spend at least a third of their time in stasis pods, conducting business virtually whenever possible to reduce their environmental footprint. While Kasey, an introvert and loner, doesn’t mind the lifestyle, her sister Celia hated it. Popular and lovable, Celia much preferred the outside world. But no one could have predicted that Celia would take a boat out to sea, never to return.

Now it’s been three months since Celia’s disappearance, and Kasey has given up hope. Logic says that her sister must be dead. But nevertheless, she decides to retrace Celia’s last steps. Where they’ll lead her, she does not know. Her sister was full of secrets. But Kasey has a secret of her own.

For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten

53418394I’m only halfway through this book and I’m enjoying it so far. For the Wolf is our Read Better Book Club pick for August and so far we’re not disappointed. It has immaculate vibes. There’s a forest setting, killer trees, marriage of convenience and so much more. I also think this one would make a good series because of the visuals. It’s also more of an adult fantasy, so the show would be able to go darker. Think the Twilight Blue Filter, but with a black or greenish filter.

Goodreads Description: As the only Second Daughter born in centuries, Red has one purpose-to be sacrificed to the Wolf in the Wood in the hope he’ll return the world’s captured gods.

Red is almost relieved to go. Plagued by a dangerous power she can’t control, at least she knows that in the Wilderwood, she can’t hurt those she loves. Again.

But the legends lie. The Wolf is a man, not a monster. Her magic is a calling, not a curse. And if she doesn’t learn how to use it, the monsters the gods have become will swallow the Wilderwood-and her world-whole.

The Ravens by Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige

49046937. SY475This book has the creepiest atmosphere. Seriously, I was terrified while listening to this. I highly recommend the audiobook for the vibe, but also for the plot. Dark academia is on the rise in the book world, and hopefully, the TV world will follow soon. While this book isn’t exactly dark academia, it does take place at a university. There’s murder, magic, and romance. This book would make a great CW show.

Goodreads Description: Kappa Rho Nu isn’t your average sorority. Their parties are notorious. Their fundraisers are known for being Westerly College’s most elaborate affairs. But beneath the veil of Greek life and prestige, the sisters of Kappu Rho Nu share a secret: they’re a coven of witches. For Vivi Deveraux, being one of Kappa Rho Nu’s Ravens means getting a chance to redefine herself. For Scarlett Winters, a bonafide Raven, and daughter of a legacy Raven, pledge this year means living up to her mother’s impossible expectations of becoming Kappa Rho Nu’s next president. Scarlett knows she’d be the perfect candidate — that is, if she didn’t have one human-sized skeleton in her closet…. When Vivi and Scarlett are paired as big and little for initiation, they find themselves sinking into the sinister world of blood oaths and betrayals.

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

5 Books that should be TV ShowsIt’s for the vibe. Seriously I picked all of the books for the vibe. Legendborn is an Arthurian retelling set at a university filled with secret societies. Once again, this would make a great CW show. The book also addresses things like institutional racism and grief, which could be good themes for a TV show to explore.

Goodreads Description: After her mother dies in an accident, sixteen-year-old Bree Matthews wants nothing to do with her family memories or childhood home. A residential program for bright high schoolers at UNC-Chapel Hill seems like the perfect escape—until Bree witnesses a magical attack her very first night on campus.

A flying demon feeding on human energies.

A secret society of so-called “Legendborn” students that hunt the creatures down.

And a mysterious teenage mage who calls himself a “Merlin” and who attempts—and fails—to wipe Bree’s memory of everything she saw.

The mage’s failure unlocks Bree’s own unique magic and a buried memory with a hidden connection: the night her mother died, another Merlin was at the hospital. Now that Bree knows there’s more to her mother’s death than what’s on the police report, she’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth, even if that means infiltrating the Legendborn as one of their initiates.

  1. Great post! The Ones We’re Meant to Find definitely sounds like it could be a show people would be obsessed with.

  2. I haven’t read any of these. They all sound good though. I hate when books are made into movies as majority of the time the movie falls short in comparison.
