Free Writing Workshop – Channel Kindness Storytellers Club

Hi friends! Today I’m super excited to be partnering with Channel Kindness and the Born This Way Foundation to tell you about their Storytellers Club, a free writing workshop that focuses on giving young people the tools they need to tell their stories.

{Check out my resource library for more writing/reading/blogging resources}

As a book blogger, stories are near and dear to my heart. I believe in the incredible power of stories to shape and change our society for the better. Everyone deserves to have their stories told, and everyone should have access to the resources that enable them to tell those stories.

Sign up for the first free writing workshop!

The first Storytellers Club session is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 1st at 8 pm EST/5 pm PST. You can RSVP here to join us!

Hopefully, by the end of the workshop, you come away feeling inspired and prepared to share your story, and you’ll have taken time with your mind to focus and process life creatively.

If you have any questions about the Storytellers Club, please email them at cksubmissions@bornthisway.foundation.

I’ll definitely be joining this free writing workshop myself, so I hope to see you there!

My own writing journey

I have been writing and keeping a journal ever since I can remember. To encourage you to sign up for this amazing workshop, I’m going to be discussing something I do almost every day that takes care of my mental health: I write.

My book cart’s bottom shelf is filled with journals. I keep one every year, and I try to take the time every day to write down what happened, my thoughts and feelings, or just what I’m grateful for on the day. It really helps me to decompress and work through my emotions. Taking care of your mental health isn’t always easy, but finding the time just to write down one or two sentences can really make a difference.

Recently I’ve also started getting back into writing stories, and I’m really excited about this workshop and what it can teach me.

The benefits of taking a writing workshop

You might be wondering if this free writing workshop is for you, and what you can gain from it. Primarily it will give you the tools you need to tell your story, but there are also plenty of other benefits:

Imagination

Boost your imagination with new worlds, characters, and situations in your writing. Writing workshops encourage you to think outside the box, which can make you better at solving problems and looking for solutions!

Broader vocabulary

English isn’t my first language, and sometimes I struggle to find the words to describe what I’m feeling or thinking. Writing workshops can help you discover new ways of expressing yourself, and teach you some cool new words along the way.

Empathy

Studies have shown that fiction teaches us empathy, something that is lacking in our world today. Writing also helps you develop your empathic skills. You gain new ways of understanding others’ views who don’t experience life in the same way as you.

Meeting new people

Another major benefit of a writing workshop can be meeting new people who share the same interests as you do. Finding your community, a place where you feel safe and valued, is important.

I really hope you’ll consider signing up for this workshop! Remember that the first Storytellers Club session is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 1st at 8pm EST/5pm PST. You can RSVP here to join us!
