5 recommendations based on books Bianca liked by Mònica, from Nightingfae

Before starting, I want to thank Bianca for inviting me to write a guest post on her blog, it was a pleasure to work with her. You can find her own guest post on my blog here.

Bianca and I planned to do the “if you liked that, read this” challenge. So she gave me a list of five books and here are my recommendations based on these books. I hope you’ll like this post and find your next read in it!

If you liked The Poppy War read The Name of the Wind

tpw tnotwBianca’s first choice was The Poppy War, the award-winning fantasy novel by R.F. Kuang, published in 2018.

This book is a high fantasy novel so I went through my shelves to find a book that could fit into that genre as well. I ended up choosing The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss. I haven’t read many coming-of-age nor adult high fantasy books. So I thought that The Name of the Wind was a good choice. Though it doesn’t tell the story of a character through a war, it does describe how the main character learns to wield magic and his personal story.

If you liked Aurora Rising read Ender’s Game

ar egThe second book Bianca gave me was Aurora Rising. This is the first book in the Aurora Cycle series by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I haven’t read this series yet. Bianca told me that it’s a sci-fi book about a group of teenagers who have to stop a deadly plague. It immediately made me think of Ender’s Game. I don’t know if the authors got inspired by this science fiction classic by Orson Scott Card. Since I’m curious, I’ll try to read Aurora Rising as soon as possible.

Ender’s Game is the first book in the Ender’s Saga. It tells the story of Ender, a third child in a family who’s born to save humanity from an alien invasion. He’s taught and trained to do so. But this book is way more than that, it makes you think about a lot of subjects, such as racism, prejudices and mental health. It’s my all-time favourite book and I highly recommend it to everyone who likes books that stir people’s consciences.

If you liked One of Us is Lying read Mirror Mirror

oouil mmOne of Us is Lying was the next book Bianca gave me, the first book in the young-adult murder mystery duology by Karen M. McManus, followed by One of Us is Next. For this one, I was tempted to recommend Broken Things by Lauren Oliver. But since that one was on my list I decided to choose Mirror Mirror, by Cara Delevingne with Rowan Coleman, a quite underrated book from my point of view.

Mirror Mirror is about the disappearance of a girl and how her group of friends find out the truth about what happened to her. It also talks about self-discovery, how hard it is for teenagers to fit in a society that doesn’t understand them, especially when you feel like you’re not who everyone else thinks you are. If you’re curious you can read my review on it here.

If you liked Tweet Cute  read Tell Me Three Things

tc tmtt Tweet Cute is a rom-com by Emma Lord that develops through the internet and where none of the characters knows who they’re falling for. This book’s description immediately made me think of Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum.

Tell Me Three Things is a romance that also takes place through the internet, where the main character doesn’t know how she’s talking to through mails. It’s a sweet young-adult romance that will warm your heart and make you believe in true love.

If you liked Red Queen read Carve the Mark

rq ctmThe last book Bianca gave me was Red Queen. This is the first book in the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. It’s also the only book I’ve read from her list. This book will take you to a fictional world where high tech meets magic, and that reminded me of Carve the Mark, by Veronica Roth.

In Carve the Mark you will travel through the stars of a brand new galaxy, where magic and technology are equally used to fight, defeat and rule. You’ll also find a dual point of view, two characters who are from enemy cultures and are meant to hate each other, but their stories will collide and they’ll have to find a way to save the people they love.

And that’s all! I hope you liked this post, if you did don’t forget to check my blog and my bookstagram. And once again, thank you Bianca for inviting me to your blog, it was an honour.

So much love,

nightingfae

  1. My library puts out little fliers like this – if you liked So & So, then read Such & Such. I love them. I even like the ones where I’ve never even read So & So! Sooo, you had me at “If …”
