January 2021 Wrap-Up
Hi friends! Welcome to my January 2021 Wrap-Up! January was a good reading month for me so I am excited to share some stats with you. Let’s get into it!

Ring Shout
Author: P. Djeli Clark
Date Finished: January 3rd
Format: Audiobook
Series/Standalone: Standalone
Thoughts: I really enjoyed this novella from P. Djeli Clark. I started listening to his novellas last year and just fell in love with his writing. Ring Shout follows Maryse, a Klu Klux hunter, as she tries to stop the demonic Klu Klux Klan from taking over the world. This book was weird, but also wonderful. If you’re looking for a book that’s trippy, this is it.
Hold Back the Tide
Author: Melinda Salisbury
Date Finished: January 6th
Format: eARC
Series/Standalone: Standalone
Thoughts: I won’t go into too much detail for this one, since I wrote a review about it. I will say that Melinda Salisbury is a genius and she is most definitely one of my favourite authors. This YA horror is perfect for anyone who wants to dive into horror. It’s not that scary (although I didn’t read it at night) and the story is very addictive.
Across the Green Grass Fields
Author: Seanan McGuire
Date Finished: January 19th
Format: Audiobook
Series/Standalone: Series (Wayward Children #6)
Thoughts: It’s no secret that I absolutely love this series. Across the Green Grass Fields doesn’t have much of a plot though, and the ending felt a little rushed. I did enjoy it, but I hope the next book in the series returns to the school.
Perfect on Paper
Author: Sophie Gonzales
Date Finished: January 21st
Format: eARC
Series/Standalone: Standalone
Thoughts: I don’t want to say too much about this one since my review is still to come (look out for it closer to the publication date), but I loved this book. It was light and fluffy while also dealing with some heavy topics. I highly recommend it.
The Dragon Republic
Author: R.F. Kuang
Date Finished: January 24th
Format: Paperback
Series/Standalone: Series
Thoughts: I have many thoughts about this book. While I really enjoyed it, the middle dragged a bit and there wasn’t much character development from Rin, but the story is just so good. No one in this book is a good guy or a bad guy (depending on your perspective) and I love grey characters.
Empress of Salt and Fortune
Author: Nghi Vo
Date Finished: January 30th
Format: Audiobook
Series/Standalone: Series
Thoughts: I read this one the recommendation of a friend and I really enjoyed it. It was hard to get into at first, the names confused me and I wasn’t sure where we were. Once I got into it I really started to enjoy the story, and the ending really surprised me. I’m definitely reading more from this author.
A Universe of Wishes by Dhonielle Clayton (ed)
Author: Dhonielle Clayton (ed)
Date Finished: January 31st
Format: eARC
Series/Standalone: Standalone
Thoughts: This anthology is filled with diverse short stories that made me laugh and cry. My review will come a bit later this month, so keep an eye out. If you’re looking for good short stories, this book has them.
