October Reading Wrap-Up!

October was a slow month, not gonna lie. I didn’t read much, but that also means I didn’t buy many books. So I guess it’s an even trade-off. Let’s jump in!

September Reading Wrap-Up!

October Reading Wrap-Up: Books I Read in October

My reading was so weird this month. I was in such a weird mood. I read absolutely zero fantasy, and I don’t think I’ll be picking up fantasy for the rest of the year. I’m a bit burnt out. So I read mostly spooky and sci-fi books.

Within These Wicked Walls by Lauren Blackwood

The eARC of this book has been sitting in my Kindle library for a long time. So I decided October was the perfect month to read it. I won’t say too much since I have a review for this one coming up. Within These Wicked Walls is a spooky Jane Eyre retelling, but I haven’t read Jane Eyre before so I can’t tell you if it’s good. Overall I enjoyed this book but had some issues with it. Look out for my review coming next week.

The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo

This was an interesting read to be sure. The Ghost Bride follows Li Lan as she’s “betrothed” to a man who recently died. She gets caught up in the spirit world and she has to work against the clock to free herself from becoming a ghost bride. This book dips in the middle a bit, but other than that it was really good. I enjoyed the story and learning more about Malay and Chinese culture. The premise is amazing and I highly recommend this.

If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio

If We Were Villains was our October Read Better Book Club pick and I was not disappointed. This book is the epitome of the dark academia genre and I already want to reread it. If you want some dark academia in your life, you need to read this.

A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers

Another Becky Chambers book. I am obsessed with her and the Wayfarers series. A Closed and Common Orbit is more “slice of life” sci-fi and there’s not much in the way of plot, but man is it good. I never knew I need this type of book until now. Her characters are amazing and I cannot wait to read the third book in November.

Those are the book I read in October! Not much, but I enjoyed most of them.

October Hauls

I only hauled three books in October, all of which I have already read. I call that a win.

  • Get a Life, Chloe Brown, by Talia Hibbert
  • The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
  • A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers

October ARCs

Nothing, zilch, nada. Look at me go.

I also reached the coveted 80% feedback ratio on Netgalley, so I’d call that a good month!

  1. Great wrap up! Glad to hear you loving IWWV since it’s one of my favorite book 🙂 I wanted to read The Ghost Bride for October but didn’t get to it, I’m planning to pick it up after my current read though!
