Goodreads Description: Felicity Cole sells flowers in the streets of Victorian London to feed herself and her young brother. But she has a close-guarded secret–her brother is a Tainted, born with special abilities that society fears and a shadowy organization called the Huntsman scours the country to eliminate. When Felicity becomes the target of one of these individuals, she discovers something horrible: she’s Tainted, too.
Rescued by a mysterious gentleman on the eve of execution, she’s whisked away to a school funded by Queen Victoria, established to train selected Tainted into assassins in service of the crown.
Struggling to harness her incredible strength, speed, and agility, and despised by her classmates, all she wants is to use her new position to find a cure so she can be normal and reunited with her brother.
But with the Golden Jubilee fast approaching and the discovery that there’s a traitor in their midst, she has no choice but to embrace the one thing she’s been fighting all along.

This book wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t amazing. It was very one-note and slightly predictable. I honestly don’t have much to say about this story. It followed a basic YA template of reluctant hero finds out she has powers, tries to run from said powers, learns to control the powers and then uses them to save the day. The writing was good, but it didn’t pull me in and capture my attention like I hoped it would. The premise was intriguing and future sequels could definitely improve on the story, but this one was a little forgettable.
Characters
I liked Felicity. She’s strong and determined to do what she sets her mind to. Other than that, I found her and the rest of the characters pretty two dimensional. I hope that in future books we’ll get more character development, especially between her and Julian.
Spoilers
There’s a slight twist at the end that could make the second book interesting. It’s revealed that Felicity’s boyfriend at the start of the book, Kit, could be the first Morgana or something like that. I really can’t remember xD. But it was a good twist, that I would love to see pay off in further books.

Love the format of your review. I guess this is a middling book for you but at least you get to enjoy some parts of it. And I am not familiar with the book until now so you definitely put this on my radar. 🙂

Aw thank you Jen! Yeah it was definitely average.
The synopsis sounds interesting just a shame it’s a bit tropey.

I actually like the title. Sad this wasn’t that good. Great review!
Yeah, I don’t think this is the kind of book I would read simply because I am not a huge fantasy girl and the plot REALLY needs to get my attention for me to read it.
I’ve been stuck earlier this month on books like that: that were okay. The reading rut was real! Hope your next pick is a 5 star gem.
