Gift Guide for Book Lovers

What do you want for Christmas? Most of us probably have a standard answer, and that is books. However, being an avid book lover includes more than just reading, so here are a few Gift Guide for Book Lovers this Christmas (or birthdays, whichever you prefer).

Bookish Candles

Book lovers love candles. I can tell you this because I am a book lover, and I love candles. But not just any candles, bookish candles. Candles that smell like our favourite characters or words, that include gorgeous designs and that you just want to look at all day.

These are not your ordinary candles (though we appreciate those too).

Check out Honeyed Tea Creations for all your candle needs! Plus they are a local South African business, so support local! They also allow you to customize your candles, so you can make literally anything!

Blankets

There’s nothing better than cuddling up under a blanket with a hot chocolate and a good book on a rainy day. Unfortunately, it is currently summer in SA, so the weather doesn’t really permit the use of blankets. I would skip this one for Christmas, but a winter birthday or Christmas in July is the perfect opportunity to buy your favourite bookworm a fluffy blanket.

Tote Bags

These things are so versatile. You can carry all your heavy books with you, you can put your book shopping in them and take them to the beach. Typo has these amazing book tote bags that are perfect for all book lovers!

Mugs and water bottles

Remember the hot chocolate I mentioned earlier? Well, your bookworm needs something to drink it out of! Typo has really amazing novelty mugs that everyone loves, so grab a few today. For the warmer weather, consider a cool water bottle instead!

Notebooks

Book lovers always need notebooks. We write down our thoughts, we rant and rave about books, and sometimes we even plan novels of our own. You can buy recycled notebooks from Typo and save the environment while plotting world domination!

Cosy Socks

Another staple for bookworms – socks! They keep your feet warm when exploring strange new worlds! Typo (I swear I’m not sponsored by them, they just have all the coolest stuff) has these amazing box sets of socks (most of them include profanity, btw) that your book worm will love!

A portable charger

Most of us have e-readers these days, and unlike physical copies, their batteries can run out. If you live in SA and experience loadshedding, you’ll know how essential these things are. You can buy them at any tech store, but Typo has ones with prints on them!

Stickers and art prints

I love putting stickers everywhere. On my laptop, notebooks and even on my book cart! Art prints of your favourite characters are also amazing to have since you can spend all your time looking at them. I recommend Oh Witch Please for all your sticker and art print needs!

Second-hand books

Books are expensive in SA, we know this. While Amazon does deliver here, the shipping prices are insane, and so is the wait. Rather shop local at Oh Witch Please or Loot!

I definitely recommend books like Cinderella is Dead (Jonathan Ball), The Magpie Society (Penguin Random House SA), and Hollowpox (Pan Macmillan SA)!

A Book Box

This is an expensive gift, no matter if you buy local or international. Book boxes usually include a book, plus 3-5 special items that your bookworm is guaranteed to love. For South Africans, you can try The Book Case (a local box; they do a mix of fantasy, contemporary and sci-fi) or Fairyloot (an international box; they do mostly fantasy).

There you have it! My gift guide for book lovers! I have written this post with South African stores linked, but the same ideas can be applied to where ever you live! Most of everything can be found online, and when in doubt, DM me or Google it!
