The 2021 Read Better Challenge

Hi friends! I’m super excited to announce the 2021 Read Better Challenge? What is the Read Better Challenge? I’m going to tell you! Let’s get into it!

What is the 2021 Read Better Challenge?

Throughout 2020, Mieke from Mouse That Reads and I noticed that our reading has gone a bit downhill. As of today, I’ve already read 103 books, the most I’ve ever read in a year. Most of those books were mediocre at best. So we’ve decided that in 2021 we want to read better.

Our personal goals will be to essentially halve our Goodreads Challenges of this year. My challenge was officially 70 books (which I have long since passed) so I have decided to set my Goodreads goal to 40 books for next year. I will try to read about 3 to 4 books a month. I’m still not sure what 2021 holds for me (since I might be moving abroad) so reading less is definitely in the cards for me.

I don’t want to feel like I am rushing through books without paying attention to them. This year I’ve read so many books that I hardly remember and reading has become a chore for me. With the 2021 Read Better Challenge, I am hoping to fall in love with reading again.

How will it work?

We will be focusing on reading more deeply and with more insight. We will also be focusing on reading less, though that’s not the overall goal of the challenge. The Read Better Challenge will also include:

  • A monthly book club on Discord
  • One (anti)prompt a month
  • Giveaways
  • A cool Notion page (TBA)
  • A podcast (coming soon!)
  • A reading tracker
  • And many more!

The Read Better Book Club

  1. I love this idea! For a project at work I plan on reading more than usual so this year this isn’t the challenge for me, but for book bloggers especially I think this is important. I also want to note that if you’re doing something like this, DNFing should be embraced! I hope you have some much better reads in 2021 – though I love your simultaneously thoughtful and snarky reviews for mediocre books. 😉
