My Goodreads Choice Awards Votes

The (controversial) Goodreads Choice Awards are back, and it’s time to vote! In this blog post, I thought I would share my Goodreads Choice Awards votes. I’m not going to be talking about the controversies and I’m not going to complain about the format in this post. We’re just going to talk about some books. Let’s jump in.

Within These Wicked Walls Review

My Goodreads Choice Awards Votes

Best Fantasy

I actually had a lot of options for this one, meaning that I had two options. It’s a bit surprising that I’ve only managed to read two out of the twenty nominees, but I guess that’s how it goes. My choice for this category was The Unbroken by C.L. Clark.

The Unbroken has really stuck with me this year. I enjoyed reading it and it made me think about colonisation and being caught between two worlds a lot. I hope it wins, but with SJM and JLA in the mix, I’m not too sure.

Best Romance

Was I ever going to vote for a book other than The Love Hypothesis? NO.

I cannot even begin to put into words how much The Love Hypothesis means to me, as a demisexual person. It is hands down the best romance book, and my favourite book of the year. I will not shut up about it.

Best Science Fiction

I wish I had gotten to more sci-fi this year. Sadly I only started seriously reading it towards the end of the year. I have been making my way through Becky Chamber’s backlist, and A Pslam for the Wild Built is on there. However I haven’t read it, so I had to give my vote to Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.

Project Hail Mary was a fun book, and I was pretty hooked. It’s not as good as The Martian, but it gets pretty close. It’s full of awesome science, and I can’t wait for the movie to come out.

Graphic Novels & Comics

Avatar The Last Airbender will always have my vote, even though I know Lore Olympus is probably going to win. Still, I had to vote for Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy. I actually read this comic as it was coming out, but I really enjoyed it. Anything to do with ATLA, sign me up.

Debut Novel

We read The Spanish Love Deception for our November Book Club pick and I really enjoyed it. It was a fun romance and Aaron Blackford is such a good love interest. I really wish he was real.

Young Adult Fiction

This is by far the category I’ve read the most books in, 6 out of the 20. My vote for this one went to Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales. I love Sophie’s writing and her books are a bundle of joy. This book also pulled on my heartstrings, and we had some great conversations about bi-phobia.

Young Adult Fantasy & Sci-Fi

This should really be two categories, but whatever. I had to vote for The Ones We’re Meant to Find. It’s a brilliant book about sisters, eco-disasters, and future technology. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t yet.

And there you have it! My choices might change if I read some other books before the voting closes, but I doubt it.
