November Reading Wrap-Up

November Reading Wrap-Up!

It’s officially December and Christmas is almost upon us. Honestly, I cannot wait to go to the beach and just relax. But before I can do that, let’s talk about what I read in November.

November Reading Stats

November Reading Wrap-Up

Overall I didn’t have a bad reading month. I got back into audiobooks after taking a bit of a break, and I had four 4 Star books (which is unusual). My reading taste has been weird lately, and I’ve started to move away from YA fantasy. We’ll see how December goes, but I don’t anticipate picking up a lot of fantasy any time soon.

Reading Wrap-Up: Books I Read in November

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder follows Pippa, your typical goodie-two-shoes as she tries to solve the murder of Andie Bell. The police have given up and the whole town believes Sal Singh (Andie’s BF) did it. Pippa knows this isn’t true, and she sets out to prove it, with the help of Sal’s brother and her friends.

I’m going to be honest with you, I think this book is severely overhyped. I enjoyed it, I gave it four stars. But it wasn’t the most amazing, mind-blowing true crime book I’ve ever read. I do think it’s a great introduction to true crime, but it’s not the best book ever written.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

I saw this in a bookstore and I just couldn’t leave it there. Project Hail Mary is Andy Weir’s third book and it is a blast. Ryland Grace wakes up utterly alone on a spaceship a million miles from home, with no idea how he got there. He needs to figure out what his purpose is, and then he needs to figure out how to save humanity.

I really enjoyed this book. The science was fun and I love space. Ryland could be a bit childish sometimes, and Weir has some trouble with writing emotional depth. Overall though, I loved it.

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas

This was our book club pick for November and it was a cute romance. If you want enemies to lovers, office romance then I highly suggest you try The Spanish Love Deception. And if you want to know more of my thoughts and take part in our book discussions, join the Read Better Book Club!

All of Us Villains by Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman

Kal from Reader Voracious made me read this book. I haven’t been in much of a fantasy mood, but All of Us Villains hit all the right spots. It’s fantasy but in a modern setting, there’s curses and magic, enemies to lovers, and a Hunger Games-esque tournament. Check out my review for more!

White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson

The Haunting of Hill House meets Get Out in this chilling YA psychological thriller and modern take on the classic haunted house story. White Smoke definitely creeped me out. I listened to the audiobook, which made it even more creepy. I highly suggest giving this a go. It deals with the trauma and stigma surrounding drugs, especially in Black communities, as well as how they are often over-policed and wrongly persecuted. It also handles topics such as gentrification and anxiety.

Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel

I will admit that Sleeping Giants has some flaws. The characters act like babies in some scenes, and it was a bit lacking in science. But I’m interested to see where the rest of the story goes, especially after that cliffhanger.

  1. Project Hail Mary was one of only two books I read in November and I totally agree with your thoughts! I also enjoyed it less than when I first read it, I’m just not a big fan of the pacing and plot choices, especially towards the end and I’m still incredibly pissed about the fact that Grace actually considers the difficulty of alien gender and pronouns…only to go for “he”, because “calling a living being ‘it’ seems rude” and entirely forgetting that the singular they is an option here. Seriously, out of all the things that I don’t love about the book, this is the one that just makes me irrationally angry because it’s so dumb?😂

    1. Yeah, same. It’s so easy to just use they/them. I also wanted Stratt to have more page time.

  2. Aaah, you’ve got me even more excited for all of us villains now, THANK YOU!!! Hope you’re having a great December so far!! Lovely wrap-up, loved reading it!

  3. How did I not know/remember that White Smoke is a thriller?! I need to read that book because I can feel in my bones I will love it. I hope you’re having a fabulous reading month & happy holidays!
