TBR Risk #2: This means war
Welcome friends to round 2 of my TBR game: TBR Risk! If you don’t know what TBR Risk is, it’s the monthly game I play to determine my TBR. It’s based on the board game Risk, and the ultimate goal is to conquer the world. Or in this case, conquer my TBR.
{Check out round 1 of TBR Risk here!}
How did I do in February?
Before we get started, let’s do a quick February Wrap up. Of the 6 books I read in February, only two of those books were on my TBR. Here’s a list:
- Of Wicked Blood by Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz – read my review here.
- Exit Strategy by Martha Wells
- Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert – our book club pick
- To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini – TBR pick
- The Cousins by Karen M. McManus – TBR pick
- You Have a Match by Emma Lord
This means that I didn’t get to Archive of the Forgotten or Boneless Mercies. I still want to read both of these books so I will not be getting rid of them (yet).
I also found in Feb that I absolutely hate sticking to TBRs. It immediately puts me in a reading slump. I am a mood reader at heart and I will always stay that way. So I’ve decided to bend the rules of my own game a bit.
I’ve decided to allow myself to switch out books, as long as they still fulfil the prompt.
That being said, let’s get into it.
TBR Risk 2: Round #1
As you can see, I redid the board a bit. There are only three colours now, and I will rotate them each month. There are fewer territories, and I named them all after fictional worlds. I will be playing purple in this round.
For the first round, Drearburh (from Gideon the Ninth) decided to attack Elfhame. They were successful, meaning that I get a positive prompt. The first prompt I picked was Fantasy. For this one I think I am going to pick up Cinderella is Dead. I still have to read it for review and I am so behind.
Round #2
For the second round, Ravka attacked the Scion (from The Bone Season). This round was really going well since Ravka won and took over the territory. The prompt I got to pick for this one was Book Box.
I don’t have many books left that I got in book boxes. I’m going to tentatively put The Merciful Crow by Margareth Owen on here, but we’ll see how it goes.
Round #3
The third round also went well, which made me really suspicious. The Tearling attacked Orisha and won. The prompt I got for this was Instagram Pick. Meaning I will put a poll up on Instagram and whichever book wins, makes it onto my TBR!
Round #4
Things have taken a turn on this last throw. Hell’s Library attacked Red London but lost. Several troops bit the dust throughout this round so it’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
I had to pull a negative prompt for the loss, and I got gift. I don’t receive many books as gifts, since I already own too many. So I am once again bending the rules a bit here. A gift can be any book I did not buy myself. So I am going to put Sweet & Bitter Magic on the TBR. I’m reading it for a blog tour, and since I did not pay for the book I’m putting it on.
There you go! Check back next month to find out what the Instagram pick was, and to see how I did. I hope you enjoyed TBR Risk round 2!

You are so clever!
Tbr risk looks fun, don’t think I’ve ever seen this , looks like you had a good month
love this cool way to work on your TBR list.. tempted to use it for every once in a while
So interesting but my favorite line from your blog was this one…”I also found in Feb that I absolutely hate sticking to TBRs.”
Isn’t that the truth?! LOL
Again, love this idea. I really liked Cinderella Is Dead and hope you enjoy it too.
