10 Books to Read in 2021

Hello friends! Can you believe we’re still in January? This month feels like it’s going on forever. Anyway, this week I’m listing 10 books to read in 2021. Last year I made a 20 Books to Read in 2020 post, but I am definitely not aiming that high again. If you want to see how I did last year, check out this post. I’ve also decided to limit this list to books I physically or electronically own, which means no eARCs or books that have not been released. Let’s dive in!

Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor

This is actually two books in one since I want to reread Daughter of Smoke and Bone this year. I read DoSaB in my teens and just never got around to reading the rest of the series. However, the books recently came out with new covers, so I desperately want to continue. I first have to read DoSaB for a refresher, and then I am diving into the rest of the series.

Goodreads

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

This book has been on my shelf for a while. I want to read more adult fantasy, and a standalone book seems like the best place to start. I’ve heard that Sanderson’s writing is easy to read and follow, so I really want to actually read one of his books.

Goodreads

Wundersmith by Jessica Townsend

*Heavy sigh.* This book featured on last year’s list as well. I have been dragging my feet in reading it for so long, I’m starting to wonder if I really want to continue the series. I’m determined to give it a shot though. Here’s hoping I get to it.

Goodreads

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Dark academia, witches, and vampires? Honestly, I don’t need much more convincing than that. I bought all three books in this series on kindle so I’m hoping to get to them soon. I need my dark academia fix, stat.

Goodreads

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

Another Sanderson book, this time a science-fiction. I’ve resolved to read more sci-fi books, as it’s a genre I really enjoy and I feel like it’s really underappreciated. Skyward has been on my TBR since it came out, so I want to get to it soon.

Kingsbane by Claire Legrand

If you’re a regular reader, you know this book has been featured a lot. Mostly because I have to review the last book, but in order to do that I need to read Kingsbane. Basically, I’m just trying to hold myself accountable by putting it on as many lists as possible.

Goodreads

Air Awakens by Elisa Kova

If the words “for fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender” are used to describe a book, I AM THERE. Seriously, my love for ATLA runs deep, and I need any and all similar stories in my life. That’s why this book is on the list. Once again I bought the entire series on kindle, so I have to read it soon. I’m having ATLA withdrawals.

Goodreads

The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon

Technically this could be seen as cheating since I have read this book. However, the fourth book is releasing in January, and I want to reread the third book (The Song Rising) before I get to The Mask Falling. If you haven’t read this series yet, or if you don’t know about it, I highly encourage you to check it out!

Goodreads

The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang

Yes, now I am just cheating. As I’m writing this post I have already read about 300 pages of The Dragon Republic. I need a win, okay? My list, my rules.

Goodreads

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini

I recently started watching Away on Netflix (it’s really good) and it just makes me want to read sci-fi. Luckily, Pan Macmillan SA was kind enough to send me To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, Christopher Paolini’s new sci-fi book. It’s a chunky standalone, but we all need a good sci-fi standalone in our lives.

  1. I was planning on reading a Discovery of Witches last year but then numerous people told me not to both as it is boring so I didn’t buy a copy. Perhaps this year I should. Great list thanks for sharing.
