5 Star Predictions for 2021

Hi friends! I hope you’re all doing well. Today I’m making some 5-star predictions for 2021! These books won’t all be released in 2021, but these are books I am planning on reading in 2021 and that I think will get 5 stars. Let’s get into it!

We Are the Fire by Sam Taylor

5 Star PredictionsI have spoken about this book before, but oh my gosh I am excited about it. It’s not often that I want to read books as soon as they are released, but this one gets that honour. If I don’t give this book five stars, I am going to be very disappointed.

What’s it about? In the cold, treacherous land of Vesimaa, children are stolen from their families by a cruel emperor. Forced to undergo a horrific transformative procedure, and serve in the army as magical fire-wielding soldiers. Pran and Oksana―both taken from their homeland at a young age―only have each other to hold onto in this heartless place.

Pran dreams of one day rebelling against their oppressors and destroying the empire; Oksana only dreams of returning home and creating a peaceful life for them both.

When they discover the emperor has a new, more terrible mission than ever for their kind, Pran and Oksana vow to escape his tyranny once and for all. But their methods and ideals differ drastically, driving a wedge between them. Worse still, they both soon find that the only way to defeat the monsters that subjugated them may be to become monsters themselves.

Jade Fire Gold by June C.L. Tan

This one doesn’t have a cover yet, publication is set for October 2021, and BOY DO I NEED IT. I’ve been following the author on Twitter since this book has been announced. I have never wanted to read something more. It’s marketed as for fans of ATLA and June mentioned it’s for Zutara shippers, and I AM HERE FOR IT. In my mind, this book already has five stars.

What’s it about? JADE FIRE GOLD is a YA fantasy is inspired by East Asian mythology and folk tales.

In order to save her grandmother from a cult of dangerous priests, a peasant girl cursed with the power to steal souls enters a tenuous alliance with an exiled prince bent on taking back the Dragon Throne. The pair must learn to trust each other but are haunted by their pasts—and the true nature of her dark magic.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

5 Star PredictionsThis list is basically just book recommendations for Avatar: The Last Airbender fans and I am fine with that. I really want to read An Ember in the Ashes this year and I think I’ll give it five stars. I’ve already read the first chapter for one of my First Chapter Challenges and I really enjoyed it, so here’s hoping I get to this.

What’s it about? Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier. Neither is free.

Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.

In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue Laia’s brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.

There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.

The Burning God by R.F. Kuang

My body is ready for this book. I just know it’s going to destroy me. I recently finished The Dragon Republic and some shit went down. The Burning God is going to be one hell of a ride and I hope I’ll give it five stars.

What’s it about? Fang Runin was betrayed by allies and left for dead after saving her nation of Nikan from foreign invaders and battling the evil Empress Su Daji in a brutal civil war.

Despite her losses, Rin hasn’t given up on those for whom she has sacrificed so much—the people of the southern provinces and especially Tikany, the village that is her home. Returning to her roots, Rin meets difficult challenges—and unexpected opportunities. While her new allies in the Southern Coalition leadership are sly and untrustworthy, Rin quickly realizes that the real power in Nikan lies with the millions of common people who thirst for vengeance and revere her as a goddess of salvation.

Backed by the masses and her Southern Army, Rin will use every weapon to defeat the Dragon Republic and the colonizing Hesperians. As her power and influence grows, though, will she be strong enough to resist the Phoenix’s intoxicating voice urging her to burn the world and everything in it?

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

5 Star PredictionsI have yet to read a Brandon Sanderson book, so I thought I’d start with his YA series. I love sci-fi and I have been wanting to read Skyward forever. Here’s to hoping I will give it 5 stars.

What’s it about? Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible. Assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.

There you have it! Five 5-star predictions for 2021! Do you have any 5-star predictions?
