Books on my Sci-Fi TBR

Hi friends! I hope this week has been treating you well. Today I’m talking about some books on my sci-fi TBR (to be read). I am a huge lover of all things space and science-fiction, so I thought I’d share some books I can’t wait to read. Let’s jump in!

Read my latest book review here!

Books on my Sci-Fi TBR

The first thing you should know is that my sci-fi TBR is a lot longer than the books mentioned here! So feel free to check out my Goodreads for all the books I want to read!

1. Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey

8855321I have been wanting to read this since Mieke over at MouseThatReads started reading the series. I love big, explosive space operas and there’s also a TV series of this book. It is a bit on the chunkier side, but I’m hoping it won’t be too difficult to read.

Goodreads: Jim Holden is XO of an ice miner making runs from the rings of Saturn to the mining stations of the Belt. When he and his crew stumble upon a derelict ship, the Scopuli, they find themselves in possession of a secret they never wanted. A secret that someone is willing to kill for—and kill on a scale unfathomable to Jim and his crew. War is brewing in the system unless he can find out who left the ship and why.

Detective Miller is looking for a girl. One girl in a system of billions, but her parents have money and money talks. When the trail leads him to the Scopuli and rebel sympathizer Holden, he realizes that this girl may be the key to everything.

Holden and Miller must thread the needle between the Earth government, the Outer Planet revolutionaries, and secretive corporations—and the odds are against them. But out in the Belt, the rules are different, and one small ship can change the fate of the universe.

2. Victories Greater than Death by Charlie Jane Anders

Books on my Sci-Fi TBRI don’t know too much about this book. I requested a review copy on Netgalley (and I haven’t gotten to it yet oops) mainly for the cover. When I saw the words “space battles” in the tagline I just had to read it. I’m really hoping that I will love this book.

Goodreads: Tina never worries about being ‘ordinary’—she doesn’t have to, since she’s known practically forever that she’s not just Tina Mains, average teenager and beloved daughter. She’s also the keeper of an interplanetary rescue beacon, and one day soon, it’s going to activate, and then her dreams of saving all the worlds and adventuring among the stars will finally be possible. Tina’s legacy, after all, is intergalactic—she is the hidden clone of a famed alien hero, left on Earth disguised as a human to give the universe another chance to defeat a terrible evil.

But when the beacon activates, it turns out that Tina’s destiny isn’t quite what she expected. Things are far more dangerous than she ever assumed. Luckily, Tina is surrounded by a crew she can trust, and her best friend Rachel, and she is still determined to save all the worlds. But first, she’ll have to save herself.

3. Once Upon a Time I Lived on Mars by Kate Greene

56578847. SY475*Gasp* Me? Wanting to read a non-fiction book? It’s more likely than you think when it comes to sci-fi. I saw this book while I was browsing the shelves at a bookstore one weekend and I knew I had to read it. I love Mars (you could call me obsessed) and I am just fascinated by the concept of living there. Plus, science is fun.

Goodreads: In 2013, Kate Greene moved to Mars. That is, along with five fellow crew members, she embarked on NASA’s first HI-SEAS mission, a simulated Martian environment located on the slopes of Mauna Loa in Hawai’i. For four months she lived, worked, and slept in an isolated geodesic dome, conducting a sleep study on her crewmates and gained insight into human behaviour in tight quarters, as well as the nature of boredom, dreams, and isolation that arise amidst the promise of scientific progress and glory.

The book is a story of the author, a science journalist and her personal life, her brother’s disability, her marriage and the food and isolation of pretending to live on Mars.

4. The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He

Books on my Sci-Fi TBRFirst of all, just LOOK at the cover! It is gorgeous. I have heard nothing but good things about this book. It is currently very high on my TBR, since it’s coming out soon and I have an eARC to get to. Also, Joan He is one of the nicest people I have ever interacted with and I really want everyone to read her books.

Goodreads: Cee has been trapped on an abandoned island for three years without any recollection of how she arrived, or memories from her life prior. All she knows is that somewhere out there, beyond the horizon, she has a sister named Kay. Determined to find her, Cee devotes her days to building a boat from junk parts scavenged inland, doing everything in her power to survive until the day she gets off the island and reunites with her sister.

In a world apart, 16-year-old STEM prodigy Kasey Mizuhara is also living a life of isolation. The eco-city she calls home is one of eight levitating around the world, built for people who protected the planet―and now need protecting from it. With natural disasters on the rise due to climate change, eco-cities provide clean air, water, and shelter. Their residents, in exchange, must spend at least a third of their time in stasis pods, conducting business virtually whenever possible to reduce their environmental footprint. While Kasey, an introvert and loner, doesn’t mind the lifestyle, her sister Celia hated it. Popular and lovable, Celia much preferred the outside world. But no one could have predicted that Celia would take a boat out to sea, never to return.

Now it’s been three months since Celia’s disappearance, and Kasey has given up hope. Logic says that her sister must be dead. But as the public decries her stance, she starts to second guess herself and decides to retrace Celia’s last steps. Where they’ll lead her, she does not know. Her sister was full of secrets. But Kasey has a secret of her own.

5. For All Time by Shanna Miles

Books on my Sci-Fi TBRWhen I saw this being announced on Twitter I practically ran to Goodreads. It’s pitched as Outlander meets the Sun Is Also a Star and I am here for it. This book sounds painful and heartbreaking. I love it.

Goodreads: Tamar is a musician, a warrior, a survivor. Fayard? He’s a pioneer, a hustler, a hopeless romantic.

Together, Tamar and Fayard have lived a thousand lives, seen the world build itself up from nothing only to tear itself down again in civil war. They’ve even watched humanity take to the stars. But in each life, one thing remains the same: their love and their fight to be together. One love story after another. Their only concern is they never get to see how their story ends. Until now.

When they finally discover what it will take to break the cycle, will they be able to make the sacrifice?

  1. I love this! I had a great time with Victories Greater Than Death, it was such a wild and chaotic ride, but in a way I enjoyed. My new favourite (soft) Sci-Fi book is Mike Chen’s We Could Be Heroes. I desperately need more casual superhero stories! I think I’m most intimidated by To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini, it’s such a huge book 🙈

Funny enough, I just finished my own Sci-Fi TBR series today (well, there’s definitely gonna be another post at some point because I keep buying books haha) so I loved getting a little insight into the books that are on your TBR 👀

    1. I read To Sleep in a Sea of Stars earlier this year. I recommend the audiobook. It is super dense. I’ll definitely go check out our sci-fi series!

  2. I rarely read sci-fi (whoops) but these look so good!! “The Ones We’re Meant to Find” has been on my radar (that cover tho <3) but I'd never heard of "For All Time" AND IT LOOKS SO GOOD!! Thanks for sharing!

    1. For All Time looks amazing! I just started reading The Ones We’re Meant to Find and I am hooked.
